Background History of the Plant:

The factory site is located at Kushalpura opp. state highway No.6 linking Surat-Dhule-Nagpur and is at a distance of 62 km from Surat and 3.0 Κ.Μ. from Vyara.

Nearest railway station is Surat on the main line connecting Delhi-Mumbai broad gauge line of Western Railways.

The nearest township is Ukai and has good infrastructure like Bank, Schools, Colleges, Hospital, marketing centres eic.

Shri Ukai Pradesh Sahakari Khand Udyog Mandli Ltd., is registered under Gujarat Cooperative Societies Act 1961 having registration No.S/36/1982 dated 30.11.1982.

The factory holds industrial licence NO.L1 408 (1982) dated 24.6.1982 for setting up a piant at an initial crushing capacity of 1250 TCD and the plant was coramissioned in year 1986.

The plant was expanded to 2500 TCD in year 1993 at an investment of Ps.17.0 crores having licencee No. CIL No.412/83 dated 3.12.1983.

After expansion the plant could not perform well due to financial crisis due to non availability of raw material, labour problems and unrest. The board was dissolved in 1998-99 and custodian was appointed by Government. The production was therefore partially affected in season 1998-99 and the factory was closed in 1999-2000.

However with the permission of The High Court, new board was formed on 11.5.2000 and production was restarted on 16.10.2000 after sincere arıd untiring efforts of the management. The support and cooperation of workers, employees, farmers and suppliers helped in recommissioning of the project.

The management of the factory requested the state government & F.I.'s to give various concessions in taxes, duties and financial help for rehabilitation and the revival of the plant. Government of Gujarat helped and encouraged the management by giving necessary relief & concessions as a sick unit by sanctioning a package for the same.

The plant is designed for adopting double sulphitation process for clarification of juice with semi gravity follow.

The original plant was supplied by M/s.Walchandnagar Industries Ltd., Pune and expansion to 2500 TCD was done by M/s. Vikram Projects Ltd., Bombay.

The factory is located in the good cane growing belt of South Gujarat. There is plenty of borewell and river irrigation is also available in the area.
